A comedy of errors in the middle but Rajasthan do get the early breakthrough. Trent Boult serves this one on a hard length and on off and middle. Wriddhiman Saha looks to use his wrists and whip it leg side but ends up getting a top edge high in the air and the ball comes down on the 22 yards as well. Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer all run after it and no one backs away. In the end, there is a bit of a collision and the ball pops out of Samson's gloves. Luckily for Rajasthan, the ball lobs up and Trent Boult is there in the vicinity to pouch it safely. 5/1Shubman Gill45 34 4 1 132.35 c Jos Buttler b Sandeep Sharma15.2 Sandeep Sharma to Shubman Gill, OUT! TAKEN! Sandeep Sharma strikes! This is a huge wicket for Rajasthan as they see the back of Shubman Gill. Sharma serves this full and on off, Shubman Gill goes for the big shot, but fails to get under the ball, and his bat also moves in his hands when he connects. As a result it goes flat and in the air towards long off where Jos Buttler holds on easily to a pretty straightforward catch. Another good knock from Gill comes to an end and Gujarat are four down now. 121/4Sai Sudharsan20 19 2 0 105.26 run out (Jos Buttler)4.6 Adam Zampa to Shubman Gill, OUT! RUN OUT! A total lack of communication in the middle and it has cost Gujarat their second wicket. Adam Zampa pushes this one through a bit quicker and bowls it full and straight as well. Shubman Gill looks to step out but ends up punching it into the surface. The ball bounces off the track and Zampa jumps to his right to get a hand on it. The ball goes to mid on as Gill is halfway through for the single. Sai Sudharsan however is ball-watching and has to then hurry across. Jos Buttler at mid on picks up the ball and fires in a quick throw toward the keeper. Sanju Samson whips off the bails in a flash and the replays show that Sudharsan is just short. 32/2Hardik Pandya(C) 28 19 3 1 147.37 c Yashasvi Jaiswal b Yuzvendra Chahal10.3 Yuzvendra Chahal to Hardik Pandya, OUT! TAKEN! Yashasvi Jaiswal with a brilliant catch and Rajasthan do break the stand. Yuzvendra Chahal tosses this one up a bit but bowls it on a shorter length outside off. Hardik Pandya stays inside the crease and simply looks to thrash it over long off. There's no foot movement and Pandya ends up slicing it high over the cover region. Yashasvi Jaiswal there backtracks and keeps his eyes on the ball before taking a tumbling catch with both hands. Pandya departs after a good start and Chahal gets his first wicket of the game. 91/3David Miller46 30 3 2 153.33 c Shimron Hetmyer b Sandeep Sharma19.4 Sandeep Sharma to David Miller, OUT! TAKEN! David Miller goes for the big shot again, but holes out instead. Sandeep Sharma serves a low full toss, outside off, David Miller tries to reach for it and swings hard, but it goes off the top edge in the air and towards deep cover where Shimron Hetmyer takes a fine catch under pressure. Miller also goes back after a decent knock. 175/6Abhinav Manohar27 13 0 3 207.69 c Devdutt Padikkal b Adam Zampa18.6 Adam Zampa to Abhinav Manohar, OUT! TAKEN! Adam Zampa gets his man now! He bowls this flatter, full and outside off, Abhinav Manohar looks to slog again, but ends up slicing it in the air and Devdutt Padikkal at cover-point settles under it to take a dolly. A fine camoe from Abhinav Manohar comes to an end. 166/5Rahul Tewatia1 1 0 0 100.00 not outRashid Khan1 1 0 0 100.00 run out (Jos Buttler)19.5 Sandeep Sharma to Rashid Khan, OUT! RUN OUT! A bit too close for comfort and Gujarat lose yet another wicket. Sandeep Sharma bowls a slower bumper into the deck and around off. Rashid Khan pulls it straight down the ground toward long on. The batters cross for one and Rashid looks for the second. Rahul Tewatia sends him back as the throw comes in from Jos Buttler at the bowler's end. Sandeep Sharma collects the ball and dislodges the bails. The replays show that Rashid's bat is right on the line and it is given out. Also, Alzarri Joseph walks in but he will be at the non-striker's end. 176/7Alzarri Joseph0 0 0 0 - not outExtras 5 (W 4, LB 1) Total runs 177 (7 wkts, 20 ov) Yet to batMohammed Shami · Mohit Sharma · Noor AhmadFall of wickets5/1 (W. CAUGHT! Excellent delivery from Hardik Pandya and it is backed up really well by Shubman Gill in the field. Just short of a good length and very close to the off stump with the natural angle taking it away. Yashasvi Jaiswal gets cramped for room and ends up poking at it off the back foot. The ball takes the outside edge and goes to the left nof first slip where Shubman Gill takes a sharp stop. Pandya is absolutely delighted. 2/1Jos Buttler0 5 0 0 0.00 b Mohammed Shami2.5 Mohammad Shami to Jos Buttler, OUT! TIMBER! The dot-ball pressure does the trick and Jos Buttler departs playing an unnecessary shot here. Mohammad Shami keeps it on a good length and bowls it around off stump. Buttler shuffles right across the off stump and attempts the scoop. The ball angles in off the deck and beats the bat before knocking the off stump right off the ground. Buttler departs for a duck and Rajasthan are in early trouble here. 4/2Devdutt Padikkal26 25 2 2 104.00 c Mohit Sharma b Rashid Khan8.3 Rashid Khan to Devdutt Padikkal, OUT! TAKEN! Samson departs after a good knock. 114/5Riyan Parag5 7 0 0 71.43 c David Miller b Rashid Khan10.3 Rashid Khan to Riyan Parag, OUT! TAKEN! Rashid Khan strikes again! Riyan Parag goes back to the hut for yet another low score. This is flatter, full and around off, Riyan Parag goes for the big slog but fails to get under it and is in no position to play that shot. As a result, it flies flat towards long off where David Miller runs forward and takes a brilliant diving catch. The ball flies down toward fine leg where Mohit Sharma comes in and pouches it safely under pressure. 161/6Ravichandran Ashwin10 3 1 1 333.33 c Rahul Tewatia b Mohammed Shami18.5 Mohammad Shami to Ravichandran Ashwin, OUT! | 11:41 pmRight then, that is it from another exciting game where Rajasthan got the better of Gujarat, but only by just. The action in the Indian T20 League continues on 17th April, Monday where we have got a huge match. It is the Southern Derby as Bangalore take on Chennai in a cracking encounter. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers! |
11:38 pmShimron Hetmyer is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock. He says that he is at a loss for words and counts this as a kind of revenge after losing against Gujarat three times in the last season. Adds that he has trained a lot and is happy that it paid off here. Tells that he was happy to see a spinner in the last over and he was trying to think ahead of the bowler which worked and he is delighted with the win.
11:39 pmSanju Samson, the victorious skipper for Rajasthan says that when you play quality opponents on grounds like this, the feeling is good and is glad to get the win here. Adds that it is very important to rotate the bowlers and after the Powerplay they needed to respect the quality of the opponent but the bowlers did well to restrict them to 177. Mentions that the start they had with the bat was due to the quality of the opposition and they needed to respect that. Shares that Adam Zampa was brought in as an additional spinner and he has a good record against David Miller as well. On Shimron Hetmyer, Samson replies that Hetmyer likes the pressure situation and does well under pressure as well.
11:28 pmPresentation Time...
11:56 pmDevdutt Padikkal is down for a chat. He says that it got a little tense but they believed that the batters in the middle could finish it off. Adds that they had to go for it at some point and needed to get a boundary away here and there. Tells that they had the belief when Ravichandran Ashwin walked in that he could finish it off, and they needed to keep the scoreboard ticking. Mentions that they needed to put away the loose deliveries and he is happy that it came off for them. Praises Shimron Hetmyer for his brilliant knock and says that he has been very consistent and they are glad to have an asset like him. Ends by saying that Shimron always leads the celebrations and hopes he keeps winning games for them.
11:29 pmHardik Pandya, the captain of Gujarat says that the game is never over until it's over and that's the beauty of the game and it was a lesson for them. On bowling Noor Ahmad in the final over, he says that he actually bowled well and can't be harsh on him but the other bowlers didn't execute well. Informs that he is feeling fine and his body is in good shape. Adds that these losses do hurt but it is a long way to go in the tournament. Mentions that they were certainly a bit short with the bat and once he got out, he feels that they couldn't kick on and were 10 runs or so short.
11:29 pmEarlier in the game, Gujarat got to a fighting total thanks to good contributions from Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Abhinav Manohar and David Miller, but they would have liked a few more runs as they struggled in the middle overs. Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan for his two wickets and for being economical too. Adam Zampa, Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult chipped in with one each. While chasing it looked like they were on course for defeat, but Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer showed fight and determination and Rajasthan got over the line in the end.
11:28 pmGujarat will be disappointed with their bowling effort. Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya were on fire at the start as they were swinging the ball both ways and the batters had no clue which also resulted in crucial wickets of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. They were able to pick up wickets in the middle overs too but were also expensive which ultimately cost them. Hardik Pandya took a big call to get in Noor Ahmad as the Impact Player, and he conceded a lot of runs before getting rid of Sanju Samson to make things interesting. He was given the responsibility of the last over too, but it was too much to do for him in the end. Rashid Khan was also good, but that one over where he conceded three sixes to Samson shifted the momentum and other bowlers could not step up as well and they fell to a defeat. Mohammad Shami ended with three wickets while Rashid got a couple and Hardik Pandya and Noor Ahmad chipped in with one each.
11:26 pmRajasthan got off to a nightmarish start as they lost both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler inside the first three overs with nothing really on the board. Devdutt Padikkal and Sanju Samson then steadied the ship with the former being the aggressor, but he did the mistake of taking on Rashid Khan and lost his wicket and Riyan Parag followed him in the same way. However, this made Samson change his gears and he took the charge and also hit Rashid for three sixes in a row to change the momentum. Shimron Hetmyer also supported him well, but when Samson got dismissed on 60, he went full attacking and Dhruv Jurel also hit a few crucial blows in the end. As things were looking a bit bleak, Ravichandran Ashwin came in and scored 10 runs in just three balls to get them closer to the target. In the end, Shimron Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 56 off 26 balls and confirmed the victory.
11:24 pmWhat a win for Rajasthan! Shimron Hetmyer keeps his calm in the end and gets them over the line with four balls to spare. They go top of the table too with that win while Gujarat will feel like they let this one get away from them considering the start that they got with the ball.
