Matthew Short pulls it hard but straight to Piyush Chawla at mid-wicket. He takes a sharp catch and this is a big wicket for Mumbai. Matthew Short can be a dangerous player but he walks back now and Punjab lose an early wicket. 18/1Prabhsimran Singh26 17 1 2 152.94 lbw b Arjun Tendulkar6.4 Arjun Tendulkar to Prabhsimran Singh, OUT! LBW! Arjun Tendulkar gets his second wicket of his Indian T20 League career, but he needs to wait to start the celebrations as Prabhsimran Singh takes the review. Coming to the delivery, Arjun Tendulkar nails his yorker this time. It is a toe-crushing yorker as well. Prabhsimran Singh tries to flick it away but ends up playing all around it before wearing it on the pads. Arjun Tendulkar appeals and the finger goes up in no time. Prabhsimran Singh could not be saved by the review as well as the Ball Tracking shows three reds. 65/2Atharva Taide29 17 3 1 170.59 b Piyush Chawla9.4 Piyush Chawla to Atharva Taide, OUT! Sound of timber! Piyush Chawla makes a loud appeal for lbw but withdraws from the appeal in a flash, as the ball roll on to the sticks and takes the bails off. An unfortunate way to depart for Atharva Taide, who was looking really good for Punjab. Mumbai now have their noses in front and it is the experienced Piyush Chawla who has done the trick for the hosts here. It is looped up, on middle and leg. Atharva Taide tries to sweep it away but misses it completely. The ball pops off the flap of the pad and ends up crashing into the stumps. 83/4Liam Livingstone10 12 0 1 83.33 st Ishan Kishan b Piyush Chawla9.1 9.2: Piyush Chawla to Liam Livingstone, OUT! STUMPED! Piyush Chawla gets his first wicket and he takes out the big fish as well. Brilliant work from Ishan Kishan behind the sticks, he gave no time to Liam Livingstone to turn back and get back into the crease. Piyush Chawla once again sees Liam Livingstone dance down the track and goes full, down the leg side, a bit quicker as well. Liam Livingstone tries to tickle it around the corner but fails to get any bat on it. Ishan Kishan shuffles to his left, reaches out, gathers the ball and dislodges the bails in no time. 82/3Harpreet Singh Bhatia41 28 4 2 146.43 b Cameron Green17.4 Cameron Green to Harpreet Singh, OUT! TIMBER! Perfect yorker from Green, and the Australian has the last laugh here. Cameron Green fires it full, in the blockhole, on off. Harpreet Singh stays back and tries to block it away but without moving his feet here. The ball catches the inside edge and goes on to disturb the stumps. Will this shift the momentum in Mumbai's favour? Let's see as Jitesh Sharma walks out. 175/5Sam Curran(C) 55 29 5 4 189.66 c & b Jofra Archer18.6 Jofra Archer to Sam Curran, OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Sam Curran once again goes down the leg side. Jofra Archer follows him this time with a pace-up delivery, short as well. It hurries on to the batter and Sam Curran only manages to chip it to the left of the bowler. Jofra Archer moves to that side and takes a dolly. 197/6Jitesh Sharma(Wk) 25 7 0 4 357.14 b Jason Behrendorff19.4 Jason Behrendorff to Jitesh Sharma, OUT! TIMBER! Jason Behrendorff offers no pace this time, it is full, swinging in as well. Jitesh Sharma slashes hard but is nowhere near the ball. Punjab though will be delighted with what they have got on the scoreboard here. It is full and on off. Harpreet Brar slogs it to deep mid-wicket. The call is for two runs but Tilak Varma is quick to return the ball to the wicket-keeper and Ishan Kishan does the rest to find Brar short of the crease. CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Once again, Rohit Sharma departs after a promising start! This is big, big blow to Mumbai and with 131 needed off 63 balls, Punjab are in the driver's seat at the moment. This one is tossed up on middle. Nice loopy delivery and Rohit Sharma tries to work it towards the leg side. However, he gets a leading edge and Liam Livingstone takes an easy catch off his own bowling. Liam Livingstone absolutely loves it! 84/2Ishan Kishan(Wk) 1 4 0 0 25.00 c Matt Short b Arshdeep Singh1.1 Arshdeep Singh to Ishan Kishan, OUT! CAUGHT IN THE DEEP! A huge setback for Mumbai as Ishan Kishan makes his way back cheaply. Arshdeep Singh finds the early breakthrough and has given his side a dream start here. It is full, wide outside off. Ishan Kishan's eye lit-up seeing the width and throws the kitchen sink at it. Although he does not get the desired distance on it. Green tries to go for a big one down the ground again but miscues it. | 11:56 pmRight then, that's it from the coverage of this game. The Indian T20 League 2023 action continues on 23rd April, with yet another double-header coming your way. It will be Bangalore and Rajasthan who will kick things off at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT), followed by a game between Kolkata and Chennai at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). You all know you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye! |
11:55 pmSo, the stand-in skipper of Punjab, Sam Curran wins the Player of the Match award for his incredible knock with the bat in hand. He says that the win is pretty special and adds that it is an amazing ground and to win as a visiting side and defend the total was special. Reckons that he should have not been getting this award and applauds Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis for the way they bowled at the death. Tells that Shikhar Dhawan is a massive player and they needed to take more responsibility in his absence. Adds that they bat deep and that showed in the way Jitesh Sharma came and went bang bang. Says that the team is coming together nicely and hopes that Shikhar Dhawan will be fit soon. Mentions that young Indians are doing well in his absence and credits support staff as well for creating a good environment. He adds that they won two games upfront and that helps but it is still a long way to go and they just want to enjoy themselves and not put too much pressure.
11:39 pmStay tuned for the presentation...
11:40 pmArshdeep Singh, the man of the moment is in for a quick chat. He says that it feels good whenever he takes a wicket and it feels better when the team win. Tells that the rhythm is good and he changed his run-up before the Indian T20 League and it helped him with his no-ball problems. Signs off by saying that his heart rate was not even close to 120 in the final overs.
11:39 pmRohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai says that it is a little disappointing to see the way they bowled at the death but feels that it happens in cricket. Mentions that they need to keep their heads high and they have won three and lost three and adds that there is a lot of time left in the tournament. Mentions that they need to stay in the game and in the competition. Says that he is quite happy with Green and Suryakumar Yadav’s performance and applauds them for keeping Mumbai in the game till the end. Credits Arshdeep Singh for the way he bowled and signed off by saying that they gave a good fight.
11:38 pmEarlier in the innings, Mumbai had the opposition by the scruff of the neck, at 83-4 in the 10th over. Although, there was a twist in the tale when Arjun Tendulkar went for 31 runs in the 16th over. Thereafter, the Punjab batters only dealt in boundaries till the very end and managed to post a target of 215 runs. Piyush Chawla was the lone star with the ball with his economical spell and two wickets. In reply, Mumbai fought really hard but could not get over the line.
11:36 pmPunjab will be delighted with these 2 points! Arshdeep Singh put his hands up in the final over, and he snapped the middle stump twice on consecutive deliveries and sent a dagger through the heart of every Mumbai fan. The left-arm pacer was exceptional with the ball as he picked up a four-wicket haul. Nathan Ellis and Liam Livingstone chipped in with a wicket as well, but the former was on the expensive side.
11:33 pmMumbai were in it to win it till the very end! It was not an ideal start for them as they lost Ishan Kishan very early on. Then the pair of Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green stitched a crucial stand to get their chase back on track, although the skipper slipped out on 44. This did not raise much concern in the Mumbai camp, as SKY came to the middle and made his intentions clear from the word go. Green and Yadav, both scored their respective half-centuries, took it deep and kept their side in the game. Unfortunately for Mumbai, they lost both these batters in quick succession and later it proved to be a bit too much for Tim David to get Mumbai over the line, without much support from the other end.
11:27 pmWHAT A MATCH! Oh, my word! A humdinger of an encounter. What a high-scoring nail-biter this match turned out to be. A statement victory for Punjab, away from home, and that too, without Shikhar Dhawan in the side. The stand-in skipper, Sam Curran would be very elated with this win. Oh dear, there are no words to express this Mumbai inning. The hosts gave Punjab a run for their money till the very end, but could not record their fourth win on the trot. It was certainly a treat to watch these two sides go at each other.

Jofra Archer moves to that side and takes a dolly. 197/6Jitesh Sharma(Wk) 25 7 0 4 357.14 b Jason Behrendorff19.4 Jason Behrendorff to Jitesh Sharma, OUT! TIMBER! |
